Ealing Biodiversity Awards for Gardens and Green Spaces 2026

In collaboration with ActForEaling and Ealing Council, Cultivating Ealing is delighted to announce the Ealing Biodiversity Awards for Gardens and Green Spaces 2026. The competition will celebrate green spaces that are wildlife friendly and support biodiversity.

With prizes to be won, we are inviting new and experienced gardeners (and everyone in-between) to enter this exciting competition which is free to enter and open to all Ealing residents

The deadline for entries to categories 1&2 of the Ealing Biodiversity Awards for Gardens and Green Spaces 2025 is 23:59 on Friday 3 July 2026. The deadline for entries to the Schools category is 23:59 on Thursday 21 May and for the Allotments category 23:59 on Friday 5 June 2026.

After the entry deadline, the judges will agree a short-list for competition categories based on the submitted photographs. The experienced judging team will then visit all short-list entries to determine the category winners.

Based on the judging criteria explained below, prizes will be awarded to each of the categories.

Introducing the Award Categories

Open to any private front garden or any outdoor private small growing space using containers to grow plants within Ealing Borough. The judges will be looking for clever uses of space and creativity in how different features are incorporated.

For groups of local volunteers who have worked together in a community garden or in neighbouring front gardens, visible from the street.

The judges will want to learn how the growing created a sense of community and what wider benefits have arisen.

Prizes will be awarded to the nominated representative of the group.

Encouraging a love of gardening and growing vegetables from an early age, judges will enjoy meeting the teachers and pupils and hearing about how the school garden plays a part in the curriculum.

Welcoming entries from all site managers and plot holders in the borough of Ealing and an emphasis will be put on biodiversity and sustainability.

Judges and Judging Criteria

The judging for all competitions will be led by experienced judges supported by representatives from throughout the borough. They will use the clear criteria to judge all entries. Details of the judging criteria can be found here.
