ActOne is an independent community cinema located in a historic old library in the middle of Acton High Street. As well as two 60-seat screening rooms that are fully equipped with the latest digital technology, the cinema has a beautiful lounge area and a sustainably-run café. We love the choice of cakes including the vegan lemon drizzle slice. The not-for-profit community cinema is committed to showing films on climate change and the environment amongst its wide-ranging programme of popular and independent films. It relies on donations and volunteers to run, so do give them your support and consider becoming a member to enjoy the great benefits.

As an Eco-artivist, ‘Rubbish artist’ and mosaicist, Francesca pioneers sustainable art by creating her artworks entirely out of waste (her ‘trashure’). Torn between optimism and surrender, she is haunted by the idea of mankind’s imminent self-destruction. Yet she believes in a future of resourceful innovation through systemic re-thinking. Her artworks are drenched in hope: every tessera she creates is in itself a protest against our disposable lifestyle, providing a different perspective on waste. The more beautiful the artworks, the clearer the message.
Gesamtkunstwerk, her commitment to sustainability encompasses every aspect of her life, from veganism to renewables, second-hand clothes (…) to not flying. Ex City-solicitor, Francesca graduated with distinction in Mosaic and Fine Arts at the London School of Mosaic in 2019, where she also lectured Fabrication in 2021/22. Internationally she exhibited in over 100 venues, was published in 100+ articles and textbooks, and won over 2 dozen awards. She is the founder of Payment in Kind(ness)© (accepting eco-friendly actions as payment toward her artwork) and of ArtforTrash© (creating artwork with the clients’ own waste).
Francesca runs pro bono art projects on eco-awareness and sustainability. She collaborated with Living Streets, Salon Sustainability, LIGCA, Fernando Montaño, a few primary and secondary schools and most recently with The Camden Clean Air Initiative on Earthfest 2024. Following her year-long collaboration and residency with the Institute of Marine Sciences in Venice Francesca is now on a retainer with the Institute, collaborating with some prestigious art institutions over the next few years.

IMPACT Theatre is a charity which works with artists and performers with learning disabilities in West London through performing and creative arts and is a recipient of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018. IMPACT works to raise the profile of disability arts as a genre through creative activities which include drama, dance, music, art, creative writing, filmmaking and animation, craft, and pottery. Over the last few years, our learning-disabled performers and artists have made appreciating and caring for the environment a priority. We take measures like limiting the use of plastic at our organisation and avoiding all non-essential printing. Our performers and artists have also visited sites like Monet’s garden at Giverny and Kew Gardens to inspire their creative output. Just before the pandemic, IMPACT members began to develop an immersive experience entitled Red Rope: IMPACT on Ocean Pollution, which tells a powerful story about preserving the natural environment. Climate change and environmental issues are themes which IMPACT aims to keep returning to through its creative work while highlighting the talents and achievements of its learning-disabled performers and artists. OPEN Ealing was formed in 2010. They aspire to introduce a refreshing cultural space and facilitate a diverse platform for creative engagement and enterprise in the community by bringing artists, performers, art groups and residents together. They make a point of collaborating with local groups and organisations which support a wide range of people and grow sustainable networks across the Borough. Using art as the basis, they reach out and collaborate with people to share ideas, culture, and ethos. This has led to many interesting collaborations including their most recent which explores the world of fast fashion and its impact on the climate. To keep up to date with OPEN classes and events: You can visit their website or sign up to their newsletter. Alternatively, you can connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. The Questors Theatre in Ealing is one of the largest community theatres in Europe, with a membership of around 1,500, of whom around 600 are actively involved in productions. We offer our members a wide range of activities and social events, in addition to a season of around twenty shows a year, a variety of courses and workshops, and a regular programme of visiting companies. We also have a very lively social club in The Grapevine Bar. Members can get involved in all aspects of production, as well as participate in the running of events, marketing, front-of-house, and other activities. At the theatre, we actively promote waste recycling, make conscious choices to re-use and re-purpose set, costumes and scenery; and have replaced disposable plastic cups in our theatre spaces with reusable cups.
