No plans this weekend? Need to get out of the house? Want to see more of the beautiful places in Ealing? Check out some of Horsenden Farms’ great events over the weekend.
Looking for some delicious food? Horsendens farm shop, Horsenden Loaf, is open every Saturday from 11am – 2pm, or till they sell out. They make everything ourselves and by hand, in small batches and short runs. When it’s gone, it’s gone! As a new addition, the Loaf also has a coffee cart with the farm shop, offering decent fresh coffee (cappuccino, espresso, latte, etc), tea, and hot chocolate.
Hedgelaying course – £45
20 November @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Taught by Clive Leeke, a nationally renowned hedge layer, you will learn this ancient craft in good company, in a beautiful London location. Horsenden Farm is a rural oasis that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, while being a short tube ride to central London. At Horsenden we have a proud history of keeping rural crafts alive and employing traditional methods to manage the woodlands and the farm. Horse logging, coppicing, greenwood working, hazel weaving and hedge laying are among many rural skills practiced here – crafts that were practiced by our ancestors yet are still relevant today, and that satisfy the senses so much more than modern mechanical methods.
Clearing the new orchard site
20 November @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
An overgrown and unkempt area of woodland is set to be transformed into an orchard. Left to its own devices for years, this is the latest development in our plans to plant trees to combat climate change and regenerate areas of Horsenden Hill.
This new orchard is the woody area on the left as you enter the main gates to Horsenden Farm.
Our small but intrepid herd of two Shetland cows – Ilex and Bramble – have done lots of preparatory work for us, munching their way through leaves and branches. Now it’s time for human endeavour.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Friends of Horsenden Hill, Horsenden’s cows and pigs and ranger Jon Staples, London Borough of Ealing.
Quick info: Clearing shrubs, trees and brambles from the site. Wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring gardening gloves if you have them. We provide tools, hot drinks, jacket potatoes for lunch and lots of healthy exercise in the fresh air. Meet in the courtyard by the farm buildings at Horsenden Farm.
