The Western Road Urban Garden project aims to create an accessible community green space in an area that most local people are completely unaware of. The 2600 sq metres site of former Western Road Allotments has fallen into neglect in the past few decades but has a great future ahead of it.

Western Road Allotments is being transformed into a multipurpose community garden that will provide food, horticulture, leisure and community interaction. Southall Community Alliance will work with local residents and groups to further clean up this large site and plant new trees and hedging. It will be a fun outdoor exercise with a lot of physical work! And maybe samosas?

About this session: The South Ealing Community Food Cupboard (SECFC) is a community project to reduce waste and carbon emissions. The SEC Food Cupboard will offer good quality surplus food items to anyone who would like to come and collect them for their personal use. Every Monday, SECFC gets surplus food from supermarkets (e.g. via Felix Project), market traders etc. They get visited regularly by over 100 people every week. Run by local volunteers, often elderly, who would greatly benefit from some practical assistance in manual handling tasks. Help with unloading vans would be much appreciated. Please note that SECFC relies on deliveries made by third parties, so the timings cannot always be guaranteed because traffic. So sign up if you are prepared to wait at the task for the vans to arrive.
