Let’s make this winter, a money saving, eco-friendly one by getting inspiration at the ReActon Winter waste busting event on Saturday 6 December, from 1pm-4pm.
At Acton Gardens Community Centre, there will be a Christmas jumper swap where you can get a jolly seasonal jumper for free. Plus Ealing Repair café will be there for you to learn to mend your clothes, a book swap to pick up some winter reads and many more waste busting activities.
On the day we will have lots of reuse and repair activities. This will include the activities below.
- Christmas Jumper swap: One item per person, while stocks last. You can either give donations, take donations or both.
- Learn to repair your clothes with Ealing Repair café
- Upcycle:
- t-shirts into yarn bracelets
- jeans to make a draught excluder from old jeans
- create your own Christmas Jumpers
- Book swap where you can bring books and take books.
- 12 days of Christmas waste busting
- Second hand-bikes for sale from Collect4Reuse
- Donate for reuse and recycling your:
- clothes
- clothes hangers
- small e-waste items (fits into a standard plastic bag)
- TerraCycle recycling schemes
There will also be Waste Busting tips, reuse and recycling activities. Find out more about ReActon Hub which is run by Ealing Council and West London Waste Authority.

Waste busting Winter
December and January create the most waste of all the months of the year because of Christmas. Whether it’s lots of packaging from our Christmas parcels, the amount of wrapping paper we use, or what is left behind after a house full of visitors, it all adds to what ends up in the bin. Recycle Now has some great tips for you become a recycling hero this Christmas. Come along on the Saturday 6 December and find out more how we can get waste busting and reduce our Christmas waste. We will have our 12 days of Christmas waste busting to inspire you. Plus lots of other activities on the day listed below.
Christmas Jumper Swap
Pop along for a new-to-you festive Christmas garment! No donation necessary. This winter don’t buy a new Christmas jumper, when you can get a different Christmas jumper, top or t-shirt at this ReActon event on Saturday 6 December from 1 pm to 4 pm. At the swap, you can either give donations, take donations or both. One jumper per person. Find out more on where to donate your spare or unwanted Christmas jumpers.
Learn to Repair your clothes and find out about upcycling
Ealing Repair café will be upcycling by showing how you can make yarn out of t-shirts. All the family can make your own bracelet or keychain out of t-shirt yarn. Or see a demonstration on how you can make a denim draught excluders out of a pair of jeans. You can also get inspiration on our to upgrade to a personalised Christmas jumper with your own jumper. Use your own jumpers to get a fresh look this Christmas by popping along to Ealing Repair cafe which have some great ideas. Ealing Repair cafe will also be there to teach you how to mend your clothes. They have all the equipment and scrap fabric to get your started, so bring along 1 or 2 items and they can guide you through mending your clothes.
Book swap
Come for our book swap, a simple and money saving way to get a good read. Either bring along any books that you no longer want and take away some inspiring books or do both. We want more books kept in circulation and being read.
Second hand bikes for sale & Bike Repairs
Second-hand refurbished bikes will be available to buy from Collect4Reuse at very reasonable prices. Adult and children’s bikes will be available. The refurbished and preloved bikes are than half their price when brand new. Reducing what we waste and reusing items is a great way to reduce our impact on the environment. The longer we use bikes the less cost of its manufacturer to the environment.
Clothes, small electricals and other teracycle items accepted
Bring along unwanted clothes, small electricals and Terracycle recycling along on Saturday 6 December from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Clothes
Drop off your unloved and unwanted clothes as well as school uniform at the event. It will be passed onto West London Waste Authorities partners for reuse and recycling.
If you can’t make it along on the day, Traid offers a free home collections of unwanted textiles as well as small electrical items at a time convenient for you. If have at least one bag of textiles for collection, any small electrical waste, (small meaning it fits in a bag for life or shopping bag) can be collected at the same time. Small Electricals
Bring along your unloved small electrics for recycling. If the item can fit into a standard bag for life bring it along. In the UK, we discard 155,000 tonnes of electricals every year, instead of reusing or recycling them.
Recycle with Terracycle
Drop off these TerraCycle recycling items below:
- Pringles® Tube Free Collection: For Pringle Tubes with the metal bases only. No other brands or tube are acceptable.
- Pladis Biscuits and Snacks Recycling: All brands of plastic biscuit wrappers, all brands of plastic cake wrappers and all brands of plastic cracker wrappers. No paper or foil wrappers.
- Taylors Coffee and Yorkshire Tea Free Recycling: All brands of coffee bean pouches, individual coffee bag sachets, ground coffee pouches, bulk bags of tea bags, loose leaf tea packs. Not accepted are coffee capsules, coffee grounds, cardboard packaging, tea bags or individual tea bag sachets.
