Volunteering: Upcoming Opportunities in Ealing

There are a number of voluntary opportunities taking place across the borough over the next month such as litter picking, canal clean-up, and workshops. These are great opportunities to volunteer some of your time to take climate-positive action and help clean up our local community. By participating in litter picking events, you confirm that you have read the Stay Safe While Litter Picking guide.

Grand Union Canal clean-up (9 and 31 July)

The Canal and River Trust’s (CRT) invite you to their summer programme of volunteering events, which are being funded by OPDC. Starting with litter picking along the Grand Union Canal, future events will include rewilding and taking care of the nature and the environment along the canal, and even canal clean up from canoes! All litter collected will be sent to local business Powerday to be sorted and recycled.

The project aims to enhance and improve the environmental conditions of the waterway and towpath making it a more welcoming place to visit. Ealing Parks are volunteering as part of this, along with local residents and businesses, and would love for you to take part and join our legacy of volunteering.

There will be several events over the summer – you can find more information about dates and times and sign up at the CRT’s website. All events are being run within current Covid guidelines and social distancing will be adhered to.

Make Your Landmark (mural on Old Oak Common Lane)

As part of this project, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation are proposing to paint some artwork on a small section of the bridge on Old Oak Common Lane leading to the Oaklands development, perhaps with some calligraphy or a community-authored poem.

They’d like to get your input into the artwork. They’ll be holding an online workshop next. It’s open to anyone and it’ll be an opportunity to chat to the artists and project team about the project and a chance to influence the art. You will be able to input into a poem, feed your thoughts back and join in the creative process. They’ll also be holding a workshop with the first residents who have moved into the Oaklands development, as part of a welcome introduction to the project and to OPDC.

If you would like to join Thursday’s workshop, you can sign up to the event on Eventbrite through the link here.
