Mary, founder and volunteer for Ealing Repair cafe was nominated for the Environmental category for the BBC Radio London Make a difference award.
BBC Radio London’s Make a Difference Awards were held at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho on Wednesday 30 September.
At the ceremony winners were picked in eight categories – from inspirational volunteers, selfless key workers and great neighbours. The ceremony was recorded, listen again Make a Difference Awards (30/09/2022)
Ealing Repair cafe was started by Mary and other volunteers to teach and encourage people to mend clothes by patching and darning.
Mary set up Ealing Repair cafe over 3 years ago and kept it going through the pandemic. It has monthly meetups around Ealing Broadway and helping other groups around West London and the UK set up similar groups. Mary wants lots more people caring and mending for their clothes. BBC Radio London’s station editor Sara David said the winners were an “inspiration”. She said “It was a complete joy to be able to honour London’s unsung heroes and celebrate the incredible things they do. They are an inspiration to us all.”
