Join thousands of households counting their plastic (11-17 March 2024)
In 2022, a quarter of a million individuals from households, schools, businesses, and communities nationwide participated in The Big Plastic Count, making it the largest-ever investigation into UK household plastic waste.
Through the collective effort of tallying plastic waste for one week, participants unveiled a startling revelation: the United Kingdom discards a staggering 2 billion plastic pieces every week, with only 12% being recycled.
In 2024, governments will be negotiating a Global Plastics Treaty that could finally phase out plastic production for good. So this year The Big Plastic Count results will be used to convince UK ministers to push for a treaty that finally tackles plastic pollution.
The Big Plastic Count is also planning a Youth Empowerment Day when pupil representatives from selected schools will be able to deliver their plastic message directly to MPs. Register your school for this once in a lifetime opportunity here.
