ActOne Cinema in Acton will be screening the brand new documentary ESTHER AND THE LAW: THE CASE AGAINST SHELL. This film is about Esther Kiobel, who is taking SHELL to court for the execution of her husband who was protesting Shell’s pollution of the Ogoniland in Nigeria. Almost 25 years after nine Ogoni leaders are executed after a highly irregular trial, Esther is taking the oil giant to court in the Netherlands to prove their involvement. This film will be the first of a series of monthly events around Climate Change film screening and other events.
After the film there will be a live discussion (via ZOOM) after the film with Esther herself, her lawyer, the director of the film. Plus Daniel Leader (a barrister from the law firm who represents Esther) and Mark Dummett from Amnesty International.

Shell has faced serious criticism over the years over their contribution to climate change. Recently Shell was sued by Environmental lawyers ClientEarth over their climate strategy. As, the claimants say is inadequate to meet climate targets and puts the company at risk as the world switches to clean energy.
