Do you have a front garden you’re proud of? Are you rethinking your front door step? Do you want to make more of your balcony? Do you love nature, birds and mini beasts? Then the Ealing Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition is for you!
In collaboration with Cultivating Ealing and Ealing Council, ActForEaling is thrilled to announce this brand new competition to find the most beautiful, biodiverse front gardens in the borough! It is free for residents to enter and there are cash prizes for each of the eight competition categories:
- Front gardens (small)
- Front gardens (large)
- Micro gardens & balconies (including terraces, narrow boats etc.)
- Edible front gardens
- Street or community garden
- Driveway transformation
- Schools
- Allotments



With over 75,000 front gardens throughout the borough and countless more balconies and terraces, together they are a huge force for good. Plants are our superheroes, they reduce pollution, absorb carbon, combat flooding, cool excessive urban temperatures, provide food to pollinators and create homes for mini beasts. Did you know that gardening has also been proven to improve both physical and mental health? The search is on to find Ealing front gardens that are good, nature and biodiversity.
This competition aims to celebrate and inspire a greener and more biodiverse community with a webpage full of tips and ideas, cash prizes and upcoming blogs about the latest in gardening, 2024 is the year for Ealing to reach for some soil and get planting.
The deadline for entries to categories 1-6 of the Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition is 23:59 on 14 July 2024. The deadline for entries to the Schools category is 23:59 on 30 May and for the Allotments category 23:59 on 3 June.
