State-funded schools throughout Ealing can apply for a free Sustainability Manager to make their school greener and more sustainable
Make your school greener and save money
Do you want to make your school greener and more sustainable but can’t find the time? Did you know the Department for Education (“DfE”) wants all schools to have a climate action plan and someone responsible for that plan in place by 2025?
Thanks to a pioneering partnership with Ealing Council and Sustainability Managers for Schools C.I.C. (“SMS”), state-funded schools in Ealing can apply for a FREE Sustainability Manager to organise and implement real net zero progress. This will save the school money and boost pupils’ green skills.
This brand-new collaboration between Ealing Council and SMS will provide free, additional resource to three qualifying schools to allow them to drive sustainability activity. SMS will create brand-new green jobs throughout the borough by recruiting, training and coaching this new network of Sustainability Managers.
Benefits to schools of Sustainability Managers
During their one-year placement, each Sustainability Manager will calculate their school’s carbon footprint, create a climate action plan, apply for grant funding and help the school secure the Eco-Schools award. Sustainability Managers will work in partnership with existing staff and policies to ensure activities fit with the needs and priorities of each school. Each Sustainability Manager will have DBS checks and Ealing specific safeguarding training.
Free extra resource for schools
Nicole McGregor, Senior Health Improvement Officer at the Ealing Learning Partnership said, “Schools are busy places with conflicting priorities. Through the Green School Network teachers have told us that they don’t have the time, capacity or the training to deliver on the eco-targets required by the government. . The SMS programme solves this challenge.”
