On 17 April 2024, ActForEaling, Ealing Transition, the University of West London, Ealing Food Partnership, and the Ealing Picture House Green screen programme, hosted an evening discussing regenerative agriculture based on the film “Six Inches of Soil”. About the film
Six Inches of Soil tells the inspiring story of young British farmers standing up against the industrial food system. These young farmers transform the way they produce food, to heal the soil, our health and provide for local communities. Given that approximately 178,000 farmers work in the UK and manage 71% of the UK’s land, these farms provide half of the food we eat. The current “industrial” mainstream farming practices significantly contribute to soil degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change. It is a story of three new farmers on the first year of their regenerative journey to heal the soil and transform the food system into regenerative farming:
- Anna Jackson is a Lincolnshire 11th generation arable and sheep farmer.
- Adrienne Gordon is a Cambridgeshire small-scale vegetable farmer at Sweet Pea Market Garden.
- Ben Thomas rears pasture fed beef cattle in Cornwall.
