Celebrating Sustainable Eating: Ealing Food Partnership – Event

During London Climate Action Week, ActforEaling was one of the contributors for Nourish Ealing. Ealing Food Partnership hosted this vibrant sustainable eating event at Open Southall, Parkside Yards. With over 60 attendees, including residents, businesses and key stakeholders, the event highlighted the critical relationship between food, waste and sustainability. Key presentations were delivered by esteemed speakers such as Enid Barron from ActforEaling, Sarah Ellis, Waste and Circular Economy Team Manager and Ruth Westcott from SUSTAIN. These presentations provided valuable insights that spurred engaging discussions and brainstorming sessions among participants.

The sustainable eating workshop facilitated feedback on five crucial themes:

  1. Locally sourced seasonal food
  2. Reducing food waste
  3. Ensuring food security
  4. Building community through food
  5. The role of food in climate action

In addition to the informative sessions, attendees enjoyed a nature trail walk and had the opportunity to view the tree nursery at the Green Quarter, guided by Jags Sanghera, Community Liaison Officer at Berkley Homes. This collaborative event not only fostered a deeper understanding of food sustainability but also strengthened community bonds and inspired actionable steps towards a greener future.

Open Southall is located in Parkside yards, and hosts a number of activities for the community that encourage re-use and recycling. Other activities take place at Open Southall are:
ArtScrap Store – donations welcome
Mend and alter your clothes with Laura Holland – sewing classes
