Plastic Free Swap Competition
Plastic Free July is here and the Reduce and Recycle hub are delighted to launch a Plastic free swap competition in honor of this. They want to encourage as many of you as possible to make a change when it comes to using single use plastic. Want some inspiration or show us your swaps? Come along to the Reduce and Recycle hub at Acton Market on Saturday 27th July.
To enter the competition, show us your plastic swaps. This could be swapping:
- Laundry detergent in a plastic bottle for laundry detergent in a box
- Plastic wrapped pasta for pasta in a box
- Shampoo in a bottle for shampoo bars
- To inspire you we are offering a prize to one lucky winner!
To enter, you must either:
- Post a picture of yourself and your plastic free swap on social media tagging us at on Instagram @marketw3 or Facebook @marketw3
- Visit us on 6th July at our Reduce and Recycle hub at Acton Market and bring along your SWAPS.
All entrant names will then be entered into the raffle to win and the winner picked at random on 31st July at 1pm.
NOTE: All online submissions must show you and your plastic free swaps and you must tag Instagram @marketw3 or Facebook @marketw3 in the post. For in person submissions they must attend the hub with both items.
July Reduce and Recycle Hub
Join Inspirational organisations involved in saving waste and recycling who will be at the Reduce and Recycle hub at Acton Market on Saturday 27th July. Visit the hub and recycle more and waste less and lets together to reduce, reuse and recycle in Acton and beyond.
Preloved bikes on sale & bike

ReActon will be selling a fantastic selection of high-quality pre-loved bikes for both adults and kids. It’s a great opportunity to find the perfect ride for you and your family. You’ll get to meet the friendly team and learn more about cycling in our community.
ReActon bike stall will also be offering FREE tyre and chain checks and low cost bike servicing where you will only be charged for the parts used.
RECYCLE:
Bring along your old and unloved:
- Clothing, Shoes and accessories for donation to TRAID www.traid.org.uk/wlwa (10am – 2pm)
- Small electrical appliances (10am – 2pm). These must be small –small enough to fit in a shopping bag to TRAID, see details www.traid.org.uk
- Recycling and waste advice from Recycle Challenge from ActforEaling
REPAIR:
- Fix your Clothes: Ealing Repair Café will be there to teach you how to mend your clothes www.ealingrepaircafe.org
- Sharpen your Garden and Kitchen tools: Contact RenewSharpening on 07860 518576 and speak to Dave. Sadly will not be at the hub but will be able to collect items to be sharpened if you contact to arrange.
REUSE:
- Book Swap – Bring books or take a books to keep them in use for longer, with Churchfield Community Association
- Buy pre-loved or returns at the MarketW3 traders who sell preloved, returns and seconds from the high street at a reduced price. Choose from sportswear, womenswear and menswear.
Plus: Tasty local foodie stalls will be onsite so to sample the flavours of Ghana, India and Lebanon.
Acton Recycling Activities and Special Guests
Also at the hub will be other community groups including:
- Ealing Friends of the Earth: Updating us on the local issues and campaigns around air pollution, climate change, nature and biodiversity.
- Make drawstring bags out of t-shirts: Ealing Repair Cafe will show how easy this is and will have samples to show you how easy it is to do.

Reduce and Recycle Hub successes
At the Reduce and Recycle hub see our Reduce and Recycle Hub 2023 review and so far we have achieved:
- 599kg of unwanted clothes and shoes saved from landfill by Traid, which reduced carbon emissions (CO2) by 8.40 tonnes and water savings of 711m3.
- 163 kgs of small electrical items collected and recycled.
So join in and help Acton to reduce their waste and recycle more.
