Tree Planting at Ravenor Park in Ealing on Saturday 2 November 2024

Trees For Cities is working with Ealing Council to plant new trees around Ealing between now and March next year. The next tree planting at Ravenor Park is on Saturday 2 November 2024. Trees for Cities has this to say about the event:

Trees for Cities is holding a free community planting day on Saturday 2nd November, 10am – 3pm. Our event is open to all and everyone who attends will have the chance to plant a tree with us. Trees for Cities staff and volunteers will be on hand to provide expert guidance on how and where to plant the trees as well as all the tools and equipment you need. We will also be serving free hot food and drinks throughout the day.

Tree planting is a fun and accessible activity and we do our best to make sure as many people can participate. Please contact community@treesforcities.org if you would like more information about the day.”

If you would like to sign up, please use the form on the Trees For Cities website here, and spread the word.

Ravenor Park

The main entrance to Ravenor Park is from Oldfield Road South on the eastern side of the park close to the heart of central Greenford with its public library, Police Station and bustling centre with shops and cafes.

Map of Ravenor Park in Greenford

Ealing Council’s parks page describes the wildlife supported by this vital green space:

Much of the tree planting is of hybrid species but there is a fine avenue of white poplar ( Populus alba) and another of Lombardy poplar ( Populus nigra italica ) along two of the main footpaths.

In the south west of the park, towards the Ruislip Road entrance, a small section is set aside as a nature area including woodland and meadow habitats. This area is managed mainly by the rangers with the aim of adding to biodiversity in the park. The grass in this area is managed as a summer meadow, being cut and cleared at the end July. The mix of meadow grassland species helps to attract a good range of invertebrates, in particular various common species of butterfly, as well as many small mammals and foxes.

The watercourse and hedge running along the northern boundary of the park provides another valuable wildlife habitat and together with the nature area is a designated Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC)“.

We also love GoPark’s website that adds map and photo information.

Why should we have more trees in cities?

Urban trees bring many benefits to our towns and cities such as releasing oxygen, keeping the air clean and mitigating the effects already felt by the climate crisis. They create shade, shelter and habitats for wildlife and create beautiful, tranquil spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Trees for Cities Future Events and Consultations

Trees For Cities are holding another tree planting day in neighbouring Hillingdon on 23rd November 2024 at The Closes, Hillingdon. Information about the event is here. Trees For Cities are also in the community consultation phase for tree planting taking place in January to March in Ealing. This is an opportunity for park locals to have their say about our tree planting plans. Every contribution is valued and Trees For Cities strive to ensure that the designs reflect the wishes of the community. The consultations will close in a couple of weeks.
