Cut the Crap Exhibition
Location: Hanwell Community Centre, Westcott Crescent, Hanwell, W7 1PD

Cut the Crap exhibition has been on a inspiring tour of the Ealing borough. Questors Theatre is the next destination in December, just in time for Panto season. Many people pledging to recycle soft plastic packaging at supermarkets, buy naked fruit than wrapped in plastic and repair their clothes. Get along and be inspired!
Get creative in the kitchen
More food is wasted than you’d imagine. The average family in the UK spends £1,000 a year on food they never eat, so instead of throwing it away why not turn unused veg into soup and try out new recipes devised by LoveFoodHateWaste.
Better yet, aim to be more accurate in your shopping orders and only buy what you need, as this All the single veggies video reminds us. The video highlighting the many benefits of choosing loose fruit and veg over pre-packed produce. Food waste costs the average household of four £1,000 every single year and our research has revealed that 60,000 tonnes of household food waste could be prevented annually if items such as apples, bananas and potatoes were sold loose. Food for thought.
So Choose what you’ll use!
“Being able to pick out just what I need for each dish I make; it can’t be beaten. Saving food, saving money, and getting the best out of your cooking. What could be better?” says to Gino D’Acampo.
Pledge to reduce waste in Ealing
Enid wanted to wage her own war on waste. For this reason, she recruited AfE colleagues to mount this pop-up exhibition. Pop along to have a look at all the interesting facts and tips. Take a pledge to reduce the waste we produce.
Put a token in the bottles to pledge to:
- REPAIR: I pledge to repair my clothes when they get ripped or torn
- REDUCE: I pledge to buy naked fruit and vegetables (not wrapped in plastic)
- RECYCLE: I pledge to recycle my soft plastics at a supermarket
Or you share your own tips on how you reduce your waste by sending it to us, comment below or writing it up at the exhibition.
The campaign also stresses the importance of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in that order. So we should reduce and reuse generally all our belongings, packaging and purchases. If neither reduce or reuse is an option, only then do we recycle. With lots of imaginative solutions to try, CUT THE CRAP will inspire you to think about what you consume and reduce your waste.
Learn to repair your clothes
Ealing Repair cafe runs regular Clothes Mend and Natter sessions around Ealing and Acton. Come along with your clothes mending pile to get advice, lessons, inspiration and guidance to mend your clothes. All levels of sewing welcome, from beginners to advance, there’s always something new to share or learn. Their volunteers will be on hand to teach you how to repair your clothes. You can pick up one of their darning and patching guides. They ask for a small donation to cover costs and suggest a £3 donation. Find out their next dates at Ealing Repair Cafe Whats on.
