Sign up today for the world’s largest garden wildlife survey with the Big Garden Birdwatch with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection for Birds). It’s fun, free and will only take an hour, whenever it suits you, from Friday 24 – Sunday 26 January. Thousands of nature lovers will be counting birds from their gardens, balconies, parks and local green spaces over one weekend.
Nature is counting on you: Right now, in the face of the nature and climate crisis, nature has never needed you more – and, with Big Garden Birdwatch, it’s easy to get involved. Your results have been helping us to see how the UK’s garden birds have been faring since 1979. Take part in 2025, and you’ll be part of a community who are helping to turn things around. Plus, you don’t need to be an expert to Birdwatch. When you register, you’ll receive your free guide to help you ID your garden visitors.

Results for Big Garden Birdwatch 2024
Last January 2024, across the UK, over 600,000 people took part in Big Garden Birdwatch 2024, counting a whopping 9.7 million birds! House Sparrows took the top spot, but counts of these chirpy birds are down by 60% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979. In fact, we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 60 years. With birds facing so many challenges, it’s more important than ever to get involved in the Birdwatch. Every bird you do – or don’t – count will give us a valuable insight into how garden birds are faring.
