RED ROPE and the National Emergency Briefing
During the first week of the festival, Impact Theatre are showing double-bill screenings of Red Rope and the National Emergency Briefing film.
Red Rope
In 2022 IMPACT Theatre created an immersive film highlighting the issue of plastic in our oceans. This was extremely well received by many audiences culminating in a screening at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank, London. IMPACT has now developed this work into an exciting and inspirational live performance staring a group of 15 dancers. The National Emergency Briefing Film
Audiences also have the opportunity to watch the National Emergency Briefing (NEB) on the climate and nature crisis after some viewings of RED ROPE (It will not be shown after the 5.30pm RED ROPE viewing on Wednesday 5th August). The film sets out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy, the risks facing the nation – and the credible, positive responses available. It is hoped that sharing the findings in this way will help build an irresistible call for the Government to stage a televised emergency briefing, the essential first step towards the WW2-scale response now required. The NEB is a hard hitting film recommended to audiences 16yrs +. This is free of charge.

IMPACT Theatre
IMPACT theatre is a charity which works with artists and performers with learning disabilities in West London through performing and creative arts and is a recipient of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018. They works to raise the profile of disability arts as a genre through creative activities which include drama, dance, music, art, creative writing, filmmaking and animation, craft, and pottery.
Over the last few years, our learning-disabled performers and artists have made appreciating and caring for the environment a priority. We take measures like limiting the use of plastic at our organisation and avoiding all non-essential printing. Our performers and artists have also visited sites like Monet’s garden at Giverny and Kew Gardens to inspire their creative output. Just before the pandemic, IMPACT members began to develop an immersive experience entitled Red Rope: IMPACT on Ocean Pollution, which tells a powerful story about preserving the natural environment. Climate change and environmental issues are themes which IMPACT aims to keep returning to through its creative work while highlighting the talents and achievements of its learning-disabled performers and artists.
