Between 4 August and 9 August 2021, London will be hosting events in the Young Christian Climate Network’s ‘Relay to COP26’. The relay is a programme of events beginning in St Ives on 11 June, and passing through Exeter, Bristol, Reading, London, Birmingham, Manchester, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, before arriving in Glasgow on 30 October. Events are also planned in other cities along the route.
YCCN’s website explains the motivation for the relay as follows:
“We are organising this Relay to COP26 to show we care about climate justice and creation care. We want to see systematic change on a global and a local scale. We hope that by running this relay, we can raise awareness of COP26 and our imperative as Christians to engage in creation care theology, individually and corporately“.
Events, lunches, marches, and prayer services will be held throughout the week. More information about the London events can be found here.
Tributary Walk from Ealing on Friday 6th August 2021
On Friday 6th August, Groups in Ealing are planning a ‘tributary’ – a walk to join YCCN for a prayer service at Westminster Cathedral at 3:30pm. The group will be leaving from the Uxbridge Road outside Ealing Hospital (bus routes 195 / 207 / 282 / 483 / 607) at 10:15am, and walking a total of 11.4 miles to Westminster Cathedral.
Alternatively, it’s possible to join at Acton Town station at 12 noon (for a journey of only 7.3 miles to Westminster Cathedral). Although YCCN is for Christians aged 18-25, anybody is welcome to join both the relay, and Friday’s walk. So whatever age you are, and whether or not you identify as Christian, you are very welcome!!
If you would like to join in:
- email firstname.lastname@example.org saying whether you hope to join at Ealing Hospital or Acton Town. If you’re happy to, please share your mobile number.
- register here (for free) to attend the Westminster Cathedral Prayer Service.
- don’t forget to bring water / sunscreen / food / raincoat / Oyster / bank card (for the return journey) unless you want a long walk!
