Urban Edible Gardens turn unused, empty or neglected spaces around Northolt into vibrant “growing spaces” to foster better health in local communities. They also offer gardening workshops for residents and the community to join in and own growing space projects, fostering an awareness of the improvements in physical and mental fitness that can be gained by being outdoors and by being together.
A number of gardens have been created in Northolt, part of the Ealing borough, including the Radcliffe Estate community space in Northolt (recently covered in the Around Ealing article here), and a space at Northolt Library. More information on ongoing projects is available here on the Urban Edible Gardens campaign page.
Now more than ever we have seen more and more people get sick from mental and chronic health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Diabetes and many many more. There is also a high rise of families now depending on food banks. Urban Edible Gardens believe gardening can help with a lot of these problems.
Community gardening is about bringing communities together. Their goal is to help reverse these situations and to encourage the creation of gardens to accomplish several things: provide a healthy source for fresh fruits and vegetables; to teach our younger generations the joys of gardening, bring a community together, provide exercise , the possibilities are endless.
Urban Edible Gardens are always looking for community members who want to help make a difference in their local communities, and welcome everyone regardless of age, abilities, skills or where you live. Everyone is welcome to join to help each other make a positive difference to our communities. Volunteer and get involved contact Urban Edible Gardens. If you know of a space where a community garden could flourish, then get in touch with Building Bridges who run the project at info@buildingbridges-community.com or call on 0203 719 6498
