Enter your front garden into the biodiverse garden competition

Do you have a front garden you’re proud of? Are you rethinking your front green space? Is your balcony green and buzzing with nature? Love garden competition? Do you love nature, birds and mini beasts? Then the Ealing Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition is for you!

In collaboration with Cultivating Ealing and Ealing Council, ActForEaling has a brand new competition to find the most beautiful, biodiverse front gardens in the borough! It is free for residents to enter and there are cash prizes up for grabs for each categories.

The eight garden competition categories are:

  1. Front gardens (small)
  2. Front gardens (large)
  3. Micro gardens & balconies (including terraces, narrow boats and other similar spaces)
  4. Edible front gardens
  5. Street or community garden
  6. Driveway transformation
  7. Schools
  8. Allotments

With over 75,000 front gardens throughout the borough and countless more balconies and terraces, together there is a huge opportunity for them to be thriving nature, biodiverse and bug friendly spaces. Plants are superheroes, they reduce pollution, absorb carbon, combat flooding, cool excessive urban temperatures, provide food to pollinators and create homes for minibeasts. We want to find the Ealing front gardens that are colourful and buzzing with nature and biodiversity.

Enter the garden competition

The Ealing Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition is free and open to anyone that lives in Ealing borough. The entry must be a front garden or balcony that can be seen from the pavement or a communal garden.

You will need and upload onto website:

  • 3 photos of your garden or space, including one close-up of a special feature and two wider shots of the garden
  • If entering the driveway transformation, you need 3 photos before and 3 after
  • Description of your entry, including details like how long you have had the garden, time it takes to maintain and what makes it wildlife friendly

Deadline for entries for 1-6 categories is 23:59 on 14 July 2024. The deadline for Schools category is 23:59 on 30 May and for the Allotments category 23:59 on 3 June.

The Competition terms and conditions

A panel of judges will create a shortlist for each category and then visit in person to decide the winners. They will then email you if you win.
