Let this story of reigniting the power of nature inspire your wild gardening biodiversity ambitions
Wilding ideas come to Ealing’s cinemas
Wilding is being screened on Thursday 13 June and tells the story of a young couple that bets on nature for the future of their failing, four-hundred-year-old estate. The young couple battles entrenched tradition, and dares to place the fate of their farm in the hands of nature. Ripping down the fences, they set the land back to the wild and entrust its recovery to a motley mix of animals both tame and wild. It is the beginning of a grand experiment that will become one of the most significant rewilding experiments in Europe. This is gardening for biodiversity on a grand scale!
The screenings are being shown as part of Great Big Green Week events throughout 8- 16 June. This years Great Big green week theme is “Lets swap together for Good”. Encouraging community swaps as part of everyday life to help create a better tomorrow. Join in by going to Great Big Green week actions.
Applying big ideas to little spaces
The thousands of acres of the Knepp estate feel distant to the windowsills, balconies and front gardens of the seven towns of Ealing, but the idea of giving nature a boost is very much a shared value. The Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition is all about encouraging life in all shapes and sizes back to all corners of the borough. It is completely possible for you to bring Knepp biodiversity to your doorstep!
Paul Carter, Co-Founder of Cultivating Ealing highlights, “The difference a single plant pot can make is incredible. With seeds, a little soil and water, flowers explode into life, giving much needed food to urban pollinators. For busy commuters, just looking at a flower in bloom instantly has a calming effect on the brain.”
Juliet McDonald, local gardening guru and AfE Steering Group member agrees, “Bringing nature back to life is just as important for cities and urban areas like Ealing. Nature can tackle some of our biggest environmental challenges. Together, biodiverse gardens, large and small, can create connected expanses of priceless, nature-friendly habitat.”
