Our waste busting, CUT THE CRAP exhibition on waste in Ealing is at the Southall Dominion Centre and library for everyone to engage with for July and is moving on 21 August Perivale Library.
The exhibition was at Northfields Community Library at the beginning of July with many people pledging to recycle soft plastic packaging at supermarkets, buy naked fruit than wrapped in plastic and repair their clothes. Get along to the Dominion centre to make your pledges and add your suggestions.

Help reduce waste in Ealing by getting inspiration from all the interesting facts and tips at the exhibition. Take a pledge to reduce the waste we produce and share your own tips on reducing waste.
Inspired to take action on waste, ActForEaling’s Enid Barron has created the CUT THE CRAP exhibition. This is her response to the eyewatering amounts of rubbish we generate in the UK. She is calling upon Ealing residents to take urgent action to reduce waste.
‘Everyone in Ealing can do something about this,’ says Enid. She is affectionately known as ‘Eco Granny’ and a stalwart member of ActForEaling.
Plastic is not fantastic
‘I was horrified by a film showing plastic waste in our oceans . If we carry on, there will be more plastic than fish! ’ Enid commented. While plastic has revolutionised our way of life since it was invented in the 1950s, the problem is that most of the plastic that’s been made still exists. The amount of plastic in the ocean is expected to double in the next 15 years, and it’s estimated that by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish (by weight) (Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2016).
CUT THE CRAP: Pledge to reduce waste in Ealing
Enid feeling passionate to do something, decided to wage her own war on waste. For this reason, she recruited AfE colleagues to mount this pop-up exhibition. The CUT THE CRAP triptych will travel to libraries, community centres and other public spaces, offering ideas on how to reduce waste in Ealing and thus help ourselves and others. Currently it is on display at Northfields Community Library for July.
Pop along to have a look at all the interesting facts and tips. Take a pledge to reduce the waste we produce.
Put a token in the bottles to pledge to:
- REPAIR: I pledge to repair my clothes when they get ripped or torn
- REDUCE: I pledge to buy naked fruit and vegetables (not wrapped in plastic)
- RECYCLE: I pledge to recycle my soft plastics at a supermarket
Or you share your own tips on how you reduce your waste by sending it to us, comment below or writing it up at the exhibition.
The campaign also stresses the importance of reducing and reusing generally. So, if neither of these is possible, only then do we recycle. With lots of imaginative solutions to try, CUT THE CRAP will inspire you to think about what you consume and reduce your waste.
