The Ealing Wildlife Group are holding an event at Dormer’s Well Moated Manor to this October to support our Ealing Hedgehog friends as they get ready for hibernation season. The event is at Dormer’s Well Moated Manor on 19th October 2024 between 10.00-12.30 pm.
Hedgehogs are one of the few mammals that are true hibernators. During hibernation hedgehogs are not really asleep, instead they drop their body temperature to match their surroundings and enter a state of torpor. This allows them to save a lot of energy but slows down all other bodily functions making normal activity impossible.
Following hedgehog sightings at Dormer’s Well Moated Manor, this is your opportunity to volunteer with children and help create suitable habitat for Ealing Hedgehogs. Ealing Park Rangers will be kindly providing all the necessary tools and materials to make this happen again. All under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Join the event at Dormer’s Well Moated Manor on 19th October 2024 between 10.00-12.30 pm.
Here’s some Hedgehog Hibernations tips from Hedgehog street:

- Help Hedgehogs by putting out food so they can fatten up for winter. Meaty dog or cat food is best.
- It’s getting cold so make a hedgehog house to give them a warm place to hibernate.
- Hedgehogs usually hibernate from October/November to March/April. During mild spells we might move between nests and look for extra food.
