Climate Action Fund: Grants for Community Projects

The National Lottery Community Fund is offering a grants for community projects that reach out and involve more people in climate action through their Climate Action Fund. They want to inspire bold and exciting change. Thirty million pounds are available to fund up to 25 projects. Their Shared Future programme supports community-led initiatives that integrate climate action into the everyday lives of local communities.

Eligible community projects for grants may include using other community engagement activities such as the arts and sports to tackle climate change, policy influence, and innovative approaches to involving underrepresented groups in tackling climate change. Grants range from £500,000 to £1.5 million, with a few larger projects considered. They will only fund projects developed in a formal partnership with other organisations.

They are looking for partnership projects that reach more people by:

  • Linking climate action to the everyday lives and interests of local communities. And inspiring them to take action.
  • Influencing communities at a regional or national level. Like linking up groups across locations. Or a campaign that inspires change across one country, or the whole UK.

They are particularly interested in projects that involve People, Places, Communities – experiencing poverty, discrimination and disadvantage.

Suitable for: Formal partnerships, working across sectors. Led by community and voluntary organisations or public sector organisations.

Funding size: The minimum you can ask for is £500,000.

Most projects that will be funded will be between £1 million and £1.5 million over 3 to 5 years. They may fund a small number of larger or longer projects.
