Expansion of e-bikes and e-scooters to Northolt and Greenford

Electric bikes and scooters are available to rent in Northolt and Greenford for the first time. This provides more travel options to residents accross Ealing. Ealing council have completed a  borough-wide expansion of e-bikes and e-scooters. Now the entire borough has connections using these efficient, active and sustainable travel options.

E-bikes and scooters are becoming more popular throughout London. Journeys using these are up by 75% since last year in the borough of Ealing alone.

These vehicles are now available to hire throughout the borough. This better connects Ealing borough and its seven towns of Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall. S0 making it easier for people to choose cycling or scooting when travelling around.

Not only do these vehicles help people get active, but they also reduce congestion and air pollution. Did you know that these modes of transport:

✅ Help people feel safer getting home at night

✅ Have a positive impact on people’s mental health

Although most people use these vehicles responsibly, there are some challenges with the parking of bikes and scooters in obstructive or dangerous places. Transport for London is working with the operators and local councils to implement changes and enforcement methods. This will ensure that people use the bikes and scooters safely while keeping all our residents safe and able to travel around the borough easily.

Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Most people use the bikes and scooters responsibly, but like anything new, there are some issues to be resolved.

“In the short-term, we have added 101 designated parking spaces and riders will be warned, then fined if they park outside these areas. Lime, one of the operators, has also put more resource into moving and redeploying bikes.” 

Residents can rent e-bikes and scooters through the Lime app and can rent scooters through the Voi app, with Voi e-bikes, a lighter-weight option, become available in the borough from 30 April .
