Ealing’s Green Guardians: Earth Day Litter Pick

To celebrate Earth Day on 26 April 2025, Ealing Council joined forces with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust staff for a community litter pick. Led by the Trust’s Sustainability Team to mark Earth Day, the group headed along the Grand Union canal towpath. It was just behind our Trust HQ to clean up the local green space.

Not only does this help protect our planet and keep our green spaces thriving. It also supports the mental health of our community. Clean, green environments are reduce stress, boosts your mood, and offers a sense of connection to nature.

The litter picking event was supported by Ealing Council’s Climate Action and Sustainability team. They provided the litter picking toolkits for all participants. There was a good turnout of attendees. The Green champions, West London NHS Trust and Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust staff turned up. Also included the Trust Chief Financial Officer and Senior Responsible Officer for Sustainability, Paul Stefanoski.

Paul said: “I’m delighted to be part of the Earth day litter pick. It’s great to see so many people out here today doing their bit for the local area. By making small changes to protect our environment, we not only support our sustainability goals. We also help the local communities we serve to achieve better health outcomes.”

Mark Thomlinson, Head of Sustainability & Climate for Ealing Council also came out to show his support. Mark said: “Today’s Earth day litter picking event is about making the borough a better place to live in, work and enjoy. What we’re demonstrating today is how working in partnership can deliver that, and it’s fantastic to see this collaboration between the council and West London NHS Trust. People giving a bit of their time to volunteer helps them to get outside, meet people and enjoy nature. This is good for their mental health and also helps to improve the environment. By creating new links and connections between our organisations we can work together to improve the health and wellbeing of our local residents.”
