Bats of London
There are 18 species of bat in the UK, 17 of which are known to be breeding here in London.
Bats have historically been greatly misunderstood. When you study them they are fascinating and amazing animals which are so enjoyable to watch as they fly over our gardens and open spaces at dusk.
Bats can be seen in all of the London Boroughs. There are a number of excellent sites around Greater London where you will be able to see bats.
For an introduction to the species of bat of Greater London go to London Bats.
Species identification of bats is often difficult. Some species can only be reliably identified by experts in the hand. Bat detectors are a valuable tool and can often reveal the presence of bats when they are difficult to see.
