Recycling your real Christmas tree in Ealing

It is estimated that over 6 million real Christmas trees bought each year by UK households. Ealing Council will turn your real Christmas tree into mulch, serving as a valuable resource for parks and allotments throughout Ealing. Mulch is a protective covering, typically composed of organic materials like leaves, straw, or shredded bark, spread over the soil’s surface around plants. It helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperature and provide nutrients as it decomposes.

In Ealing, between Monday 5 January and Friday 23 January 2026, those who use the black and blue wheeled bins can leave their real trees on the front edge of their property for collection. Or you can drop off at the designated local parks around the borough or book a slot Greenford reuse and recycling centre.

Put you trees out on the same day as your revised rubbish collection (black bin) so every other week. Check the council’s rubbish and recycling collections page for more details of collection dates. Trees must be shorter than 6 feet (taller trees can be cut into two) and with a trunk smaller than 20cm in diameter. Leave the tree on the front edge of your property and not blocking the pavement for pedestrians. No decorations will be accepted, and real trees only please.
