Community environmental group LAGER Can is celebrating a remarkable contribution to this year’s Great British Spring Clean. Their volunteers across the borough delivering outstanding results and removing over 2,500 bags of litter.
Between 13th and 29th March 2026, LAGER Can volunteers:
- Donated 1,378 hours of time
- Collected 2,507 bags of rubbish
- Reported 288 fly-tipping incidents
An estimated 450 volunteers took part, many of whom returned multiple times throughout the campaign. Around 70% of both the work and waste collected came from LAGER Can’s impactful All Parks project, highlighting the importance of protecting local green spaces.
The All Parks project involved litter picking and removing fly-tips from all 148 parks in the London Borough of Ealing. It brought together a wide cross-section of the community, including students. This included students from West London College (Southall and Ealing campuses), pupils from Derwentwater Primary School, Khalsa Primary School, and Ark Byron School. Plus members of the Samurai Football Club and the Eco Team from St Thomas’s Church, Hanwell. Dozens of regular LAGER Can volunteers were joined by many new faces, strengthening the group’s growing community.

The Great British Spring Clean, led by Keep Britain Tidy, is the UK’s largest mass-action environmental campaign. This is done by encouraging individuals, schools, and organisations to take pride in their local areas by removing litter from streets, parks, and public spaces. In 2025, LAGER Can received the Great British Spring Clean Litter Legends Group Award from Keep Britain Tidy.
Chair of LAGER Can, Cathy Swift, said:
“Just like last year, our Great British Spring Clean All Parks project proved extremely popular with our incredible members, whose enthusiasm never ceases to impress me. It was wonderful to be joined by so many schools and community groups. We estimate that around 450 volunteers took part. We know that Ealing Council’s hardworking cleansing crews do their best to keep the busiest areas of our parks clean, but we found plenty of rubbish lurking around the edges and in wooded areas.”
LAGER Can continues to run regular litter-picking events across the borough and welcomes anyone who would like to get involved.

About LAGER Can
LAGER Can was founded in February 2017 by local residents with the primary goal to make the borough’s open spaces cleaner and greener. Since then, they have grown exponentially with membership exceeding 1,800 by October 2021, a number that continues to grow! They work with a variety of partners including Ealing Council, the Canal & River Trust, businesses, and schools. LAGER Can is a very active group, with volunteers working every day independently or in groups, removing hundreds of bags of litter, rubbish, recyclables and piles of unbaggable items from our open spaces.
