Ealing Wildlife Group: Ealing Beaver Project Online Q&A – 3rd April 2023

Ealing Wildlife Group had an online Q&A to find out more about their hopes and plans for reintroducing beavers back to Ealing as part of the Ealing Beaver Project.

Beavers have been making a comeback in the UK in recent years. Originally native to the UK, they became extinct here 400 years ago, due to overhunting.

Beavers are a keystone species and the perfect architects of healthy and biodiverse ecosystems! With their dam and canal creation they create wetlands and deadwood, which create ideal habitats for insects, amphibians, and even water voles. They also slow the flow of waterways which prevents flooding and filters water, improving water quality.

The online QandA was hosted by zoologist and BBC wildlife TV presenter, Megan McCubbin and the team will be sharing insights from the project to date and what they hope to achieve over the coming year.

There was a range of speakers, including Ealing Wildlife Group, Beaver Trust and Citizen UK.
