Nourishing the New Year: A Journey into Veganuary

Hope 2024 has started well. Are you trying Veganuary this January?

Taking part in Veganuary means doing your best to follow a plant-based diet for the whole of January. This means no meat (including fish), eggs, cheese, milk, or butter, as none of these food items are plant-based.

Veganuary is a non-profit organisation and millions of people have signed up to their one-month vegan pledge since 2014, and in 2023 alone.

Veganuary encourages and supports people and businesses alike to move to a plant-based diet as a way of protecting the environment, preventing animal suffering, and improving the health of millions of people.

Pronunciation

  • How do you pronounce Veganuary? The word is a combination of ‘vegan’ and ‘January’ and we pronounce it ‘vee-gan-you-air-ee.’
  • We’re even in the official Cambridge dictionary!
  • The official Veganuary pronunciation has been a subject of debate for years and we always say pronouncing it is the hardest thing about participating. Now, we can finally put this to bed.

At a recent screening of Eating Our Way To Extinction at UWL in partnership with Ealing Transition and the Food Partnership sparked discussions among the attendees of tangible solutions for improving the food system in Ealing. After the film, attendees stayed in the University of West London’s Heart space to discuss what they thought of the film, while trying out some plant-based food for inspiration. To read more about the event, click here.
