LAGER Can celebrates local heroes at The LALAs

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the Litter Action Group for Ealing Residents (LAGER Can) proudly hosted The LALAs, LAGER Can Legends Awards. LAGER Can celebrates 2026 with these awards. This was an inspiring afternoon dedicated to recognising the outstanding individuals. Those who make a difference to the open spaces of the London Borough of Ealing.

Held at the Pear Tree Park Bistro, the event brought together over 40 guests to celebrate the achievements of LAGER Can. LAGER Can celebrates the dedication and community spirit of LAGER Can volunteers and supporters. Presentations of 12 awards to individuals on the day. Their commitment to making our borough cleaner and greener has a lasting and positive impact on our environment.

The awards ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Richard Kornicki CBE, Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Ealing, Mel Giedroyc, and Steve Pound. All the guests joined in celebrating the remarkable contributions of this year’s award recipients.

Guests also enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by Diana and her team at Pear Tree Park Bistro. Their hospitality helped make the occasion especially memorable.

In addition to recognising community achievement, the event raised vital funds to support LAGER Can’s ongoing work. A fundraising raffle held online and at the event raised more than £700. This will help the organisation continue its mission to make Ealing cleaner and greener.

LAGER Can continues to support anyone wishing to do litter picking. Whether this is by joining group litter-picking events or working individually. Based on the LALAs success, the group is likely to host another awards ceremony next year in 2027.

“It was a challenge to choose just 12 winners from our large volunteer base. The awardees were selected based not just on their litter picking activity but on their general engagement with LAGER Can, whether by supporting others, promoting our work, helping to reduce fly-tipping, etc. An unintended benefit of developing LAGER Can for the past five years has been to see such strong friendships forming between our members. I’m incredibly grateful to officers at Ealing Council who support our work, and to everyone who made The LALAs such a great success.”

Cathy Swift, Chair of LAGER Can

“Thanks to the dignitaries who helped make the LAGER Can LALA awards such a success, but above all, the award winners themselves, who, even by LAGER Can’s high standards, go above and beyond. They put in a truly remarkable effort throughout the year to make our borough a better place. It’s my hope that it inspires others to follow our lead and get out there and become part of the solution.”

Mark Warner, LAGER Can Trustee and award recipient

“The LALAs event was brilliant –a fun afternoon was had by all! I am chuffed to bits to have received an award for my voluntary work with LAGER Can from Cathy Swift and special guests Richard Kornicki and Mel Giedroyc. I like to think I’m helping the planet in a small way by litter picking when I feel fit, for as long or as little as I like. It makes me feel good to keep our green spaces clean.”

LAGER Can would like to thank everyone who attended, donated wonderful raffle prizes and purchased raffle tickets. Also to those who volunteered their time and helped make the event such a success.
