Library of Things Ealing: Rent Household Items for DIY and more

The Library of Things Ealing is open in Ealing Broadway in partnership with Ealing Council. This is where you can borrow useful household items for DIY, cleaning, gardening, events, entertainment and more for a few pounds per day.

You can register and booking items to borrow from Library of Things Ealing. You’ll can affordably hire useful items like a pressure washer, tile cutter, and even a Nintendo 64, from a few pounds per day.

Around 40 items are available, including a:

  • Carpet cleaner
  • Jet washer
  • Drill
  • Sewing machine
  • Wall stripper
  • Tent

You can rent various items for a small fee and return them after use at Ealing Broadway shopping centre lockers. Ideal for occasional use, the Library is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment by hiring items, rather than buying them and only using them a few times. This initiative fights the climate crisis by reducing consumption and minimizing landfill waste.

Why buy when you can borrow?

The Library of Things encourages sharing, the ability to try before you buy, and access to rarely used household items. By borrowing, renting or sharing products instead of buying new ones, we can protect our fragile ecosystems and help keep the fossil fuels in the ground.

Electronic waste is a serious issue in the UK. The UK ranks second to Norway in the most e-waste produced a new study has found. So the more we use services like Library of Things, borrow and share the less that ends up as electrical waste.

How does the Library of Things Ealing work?

Now Library of Ealing is open, borrowing is simple. It works in a similar way to a book library, Within a few clicks you could be on your way home with one of 30+ items available to hire. Its so easy to set up and use:

  • Join and reserve: Browse the Ealing Library of Things items. Set up an account. Make a reservation for the item and set up payment to borrow.
  • Borrow and return it: Collect your Thing from the lockers in Ealing Broadway by logging into the terminal at the lockers. Use it. Then return it to the lockers when you’re done and check it back in using the locker.
  • Track your impact: See how much waste you’ve saved from landfill by borrowing instead of buying.

The Kiosk lockers is where you collect your items and is in the Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre near Lola’s Cup Cakes!
