Learning from an expert

Vanessa has been Park Manager at Boston Manor Park since October 2021. She has worked alongside Hounslow’s Parks team, the landscape architects, buildings and landscaping contractors to support the delivery of the “Reconnecting Boston Manor Park” project. The project to restore the park was funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project was finally completed in early 2023, but she continues to look after the day-to-day management of the park. The park also runs a conservation and horticultural volunteering programme and delivers a wide range of events and activities that engage, educate and connect the local and wider community.

Before working at Boston Manor Park, Vanessa was Senior Ranger for Ealing, responsible for the conservation management of over 160 Ealing parks and green spaces, including Ealing’s flagship heritage park, Walpole Park. Walpole is also home to a number of veteran trees.

This is a fabulous opportunity to learn from a tree expert of Vanessa’s calibre, with over 20 years of experience of working in parks management, conservation, horticulture and environmental education. She is also Vice Chair of the Hammersmith and Fulham resident-led Parks Forum Commission and Chairs her local Friends of the park group.

What next?

So once you have learned about local ancient trees, perhaps you could speak to Vanessa about how you could support your local park to protect the ancient trees of the future.
