World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is a celebration of kindness in society and day to day life. Acts of kindness start a ripple of change that can transform the lives of children, families and entire communities. Individual and group acts of kindness are made on this day. It is a celebration every year on 13th November to celebrate and promote kindness in all its forms. Some ideas of kindness acts if you cant make it to our event.

Ealing Clothes Repair cafe also believes that sewing and mending is great for your mental health and an act of mindfulness. There is always friendly chat and many who join the sessions have told us how great they find the sessions. One person said about the Ealing Repair cafe session “was so soothing and restorative I want to do it again”. Another said coming to a session is as pleasurable as eating a bar of chocolate!

Donations of Jeans, T-shirts and sewing equipment

If you have jeans, t-shirt or fabric scraps or old pillows for stuffing to donate, please contact Ealing Repair cafe at Contact us. We are looking for adult sized jeans and t-shirts. Ealing Repair cafe will also take donations of sewing threads and equipment that they use at their sessions.

Why reuse our clothes?

WRAP research from April 2024 shows that people are putting almost half (49%) of all used textiles in the rubbish bin. On average, each person in the UK throws a shocking 35 items of unwanted textiles straight into general waste every year. The UK bought 1.42 million tonnes of textiles in 2022. In the same year, we generated almost exactly the same amount of clothes passed on – 1.45 million tonnes of used textiles.

So lets recycle, repair and mend our clothes to stop them going to waste.

Goodgym: doing good and getting fit

Ealing Repair cafe has been running similar upcycling events with positive feedback from those who came along to the GoodGym events. At the events everything that is made is donated, and there is lots of fun, learning sewing and upcycling techniques. Here are some the Good Gym session reports such as Tug of Wore and Mira-colour-ous Discoveries.

Ealing Repair cafe and GoodGym have so far made and donated:

  • 15 metres of upcycled bunting for community groups
  • 25 upcycled t-shirt drawstring bags donated to Ealing soup kitchen and. South Ealing Food Cupboard
  • 14 upcycled denim draught excluders made from old jeans to Ealing soup kitchen and Ealing Age concern

The GoodGym is a group of runners, walkers, and cyclists who combine regular exercise with helping in the community and doing acts of kindness. If you want to get fit, with the added bonus to do good in your community then GoodGym is for you. To find out more about GoodGym Ealing or find out more about Ealing GoodGym latest sessions.
