MindFood has received The King’s Award for Voluntary Service

MindFood in Ealing was announced by Sir Martyn Lewis CBE, the KAVS Chair, as a recipient of the 2024 Kings Award for Voluntary Service. MindFood was given the highest honour for innovative supported volunteering to aid mental health recovery. We are very proud of MindFood, one of ActForEalings partners. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, is the highest honour for volunteer groups awarded for life.

In Greater London, organisations awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service are:

  • Friends of Bedford Park Walled Garden
  • Mindfood
  • Muslimah Sports Association (MSA)
  • The Javan Coker Foundation (TJCF
  • Znaniye Foundation

Mindfood got this award for their courses being a balance of learning how to grow food, plus practical tips and techniques to improve your wellbeing. They empower individuals overwhelmed by life pressures, by building confidence for a brighter future. Mindfood would like to thank everyone who made this possible.

About the King’s Award for Voluntary Service

Every day, millions of people across the UK are making a difference by volunteering. Every year, outstanding examples of this work are get the award through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS).

Created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and previously known as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS), the Award has been shining a light on the fantastic work of voluntary groups from all across the UK for many years.

Equivalent to an MBE, KAVS is the highest Award that local voluntary groups can receive in the UK. They are awards are for life of the local voluntary group. There groups are:

  • Truly outstanding and making a big difference to their local community.
  • Where volunteers, rather than paid staff, are in the driving seat.
  • Working to the highest standards in everything they do.
