Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) launched at The Minerva Works Circular Economy Hub. The hub been created and run by the Republic of Park Royal. The workspaces in the hub has a range of local businesses including:
- Remade: Materials exchange hub for Park Royal. Connecting artists and makers with waste and surplus materials from local industries, film studios and construction projects.
- Re-collective: Direct construction materials away from waste streams and towards communities
- Absolute Beginners: An Art project where young people get the opportunity to learn how to make the basic goods. These goods used to be produced in the Park Royal area – and might need to make again in our uncertain future.
- Rescued Clay: Transforming clay from major construction into art and sustainable communities
These projects re-use waste materials and clay, including High Speed 2 to creatively inspire and teach others. A Ceramic Studio is available for classes and workshops. Local schools, youth groups and wider organisations can come along and learn about green skills. If you are passionate about the circular economy, reach out to the to help. Minerva Works Circular Economy Hub
OPDC purchased the building on Minerva Road in 2024 for its innovative district heat network. The site is planned to be an energy centre to reclaim waste heat from nearby data centres. As the building isn’t needed for this use until 2026, the OPDC looked for an alternative use. They are working with the Republic of Park Royal to develop this hub in the building.
The hub is a brilliant example of what can be achieved by organisations like ODBC. This hub creates opportunities in buildings which may otherwise have been left empty.
At the launch of the hub, Alka Sharma, our Hub Manager for ActforEaling had the opportunity to tour the space. She spoke directly with some of the tenants who are already using the hub and showed her how it has transformed.
