Children’s Halloween Costume Swap at ReActon

We will be having a Children’s Halloween costume swap at ReActon between 11 am and 2 pm. Bring along clean, wearable Halloween costumes and accessories to swap it for a fresh spooky look.

With 2 in 5 Halloween costumes only being worn once before they’re thrown away, according to Hubbub, we should do more swapping of costumes. Plus a lot of them being made from plastic, the cost of looking spooky is scarily on the rise! Every year almost 7 million Halloween costumes are thrown away this equals to around 2,000 tonnes of plastic waste.

For more inspiration for a low waste Halloween of our Halloween waste busting ideas.

So come along and get swapping at our Halloween Costume Swap! If you are not able come along on the day, we are collecting Halloween costumes before, so please donate at one of the Halloween costume drop off points.

Free bike check

Bring your bike along for a free check by Dr Bike. This is run by Let’s Ride Southall. Dr Bike is a free service where mechanics will carry out minor repairs on the spot and give advice on how to look after your bike to keep you riding all year round. They also offer this around the borough of Ealing if you cant get along on the day Free Dr Bike Checks in Ealing: Keep Your Bike Roadworthy – ActforEaling Climate Action Hub

School Uniform Free Shop and Swap

With the winter term approaching the children will be moving over to their warmer uniform. We have a wide selection of branded and unbranded items from primary and high schools around the Ealing borough.

Please donate school uniform and clothes hangers that you no longer want. If you can’t make the event, please drop them at one of our collection points. We want school uniforms that are clean and in good condition. However, it is not essential that you bring items, you are welcome to take up to 4 items for free for each child from the swap.

Our last Ealing School Uniform Swap so far since August 2025 has:

  • Over 2k items of primary and high school uniform donated to our project. Thanks to all who have donated.
  • Over 250 school uniform items have been taken by families and put back in use. This helped over 100 families who visited and taken items from our free shop and swap. The swap saved over 650kg of carbon and 115,000l of water. This is because making clothes takes large amounts of energy and water to make. The water saved is equivalent to what 128 people will drink in water for a year!*
Free School Uniform Free shop and swap at ReActon

The School Uniform Free shop and swap will be open from 11-2 pm. This project helps families save money and by wearing our clothes for longer we can reduce waste.

If you have unwanted, laundered hand-me-down school uniform and clothes hangers, you can also drop them off on the day. So come along to the ReActon Reuse and Recycle event in Acton and pick up some winter school uniform and drop off any uniform that has got too small.

Community Paint pick up

Each year it is estimated that 50 million litres of paint goes to waste in the UK. This leftover paint is either thrown away or stored in homes or garages despite over 50% of it still being usable. So come along to ReActon and take some free household paint donated locally.

If you have paint you don’t want, take it to Greenford Road reuse and recycling centre. BBook a slot to drop the paint off and any other items you want to recycle. This is part of the Community RePaint project. Their mission is to make use of this wasted paint by offering a solution for leftover paint and making it available for reuse.

Clothes, small electricals and other TerraCycle items accepted

Bring along unwanted clothes, small electricals and TerraCycle recycling along on Saturday 25 October from 11 am to 2 pm, at ReActon at Stirling Road.

Clothes

Drop off your unloved and unwanted clothes as well as school uniform at the Reuse and Recycle day from 11 noon until 2 pm. West London Waste Authority will pass them onto their recycling partners.

In the UK, around 49% of all unwanted textiles gets thrown in the rubbish bin each year. That’s around 35 items, per person, per year. Please bring your clothing and textiles along and don’t put it in the bin.

If you can’t make it along on the day, Traid offers a free home collections of unwanted textiles as well as small electrical items at a time convenient for you. If have at least one bag of textiles for collection, any small electrical waste, (small meaning it fits in a bag for life or shopping bag) can be collected at the same time. Book Traid free home collection

Small electricals

Bring along your unloved small electrics for recycling and a repair training local project. If the item can fit into a standard bag for life, anything bigger and we wont accept it and you can take it to Greenford or Abbey Road Recycling centres.

In the UK, we discard 155,000 tonnes of electricals every year, instead of reusing or recycling them. This creates e-waste which poses a major threat to the environment, wildlife and to human health. The UK ranks second to Norway in the most e-waste produced a 2022 study has found.

So bring along to donate your small electricals between 11 am and 2 pm to ReActon Reuse and Recycle event.

Recycle with Terracycle

Drop off these TerraCycle recycling items below:

If you are unable to make it on the day, you can also drop it off at Greenford Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Pick up a free food waste bin

Come along between 11 am – 2 pm to pick up a green food waste bin and get advice on food waste, recycling and waste in Ealing.

In Ealing, your food waste is collected from the doorstep weekly on your scheduled collection day. Food waste collection is also being rolled out to all flats and apartments across Ealing.
