Drop off school uniform that is no longer needed. We want uniform that is washed, clean and in good condition. However, it is not essential that you bring items, you are welcome to take up to four items free from our free shop and swap. This is to make sure there’s enough available for everyone.

At the free shop and swap there will be branded and unbranded items, such as shirts, skirts, trousers, tops and jumpers. Also sportswear such as tops, shorts and trousers. This event has the support of ActForEaling, Ealing Council and West Ealing Community Library.

For more advice on getting the most out of clothes see Ealing Repairs article on how to extend the life of school uniform.

Why pass uniform on?

The cost of school uniform can be a burden to parents, yet many children grow out of their uniform long before it reaches the end of its life. A poll by Sainsbury’s revealed that a child will wear an average of 480 items of uniform clothing over the course of their school days and that parents will spend about £6,000 in total on school uniform. If you want to start something at school see PTA Second-hand uniform. Offering a second-hand uniform service at your school helps parents with the cost of uniform, while at the same time raising money for the school and keeping perfectly usable items out of landfill.

Benefits of the project are:

  • reduce textile waste: help keep usable clothing out of landfill
  • support local families: these items go directly to those in need
  • simplifies donating: drop uniform items at your local library

Help make this school year easier and greener for Ealing families.

West Ealing library is a drop off point for the project. Pop in when the library is open and drop off any uniform you want to pass on. We started collecting in August and West Ealing library continues into to accept both high school and primary uniform. The community has been very generous with their donations. It is these donations that make these events such a success. So a big thank you to all that has donated, as many families will be helped by this generosity.
