Ealing Wildlife Group have a full calendar of conservation and wildlife related events planned for the New Year, including their regular volunteering open days at the Costons Lane Nature Reserve, a guided tour of their Wildlife Photography Exhibition currently on display in Walpole Park, as well as a Kingfisher Safari Walk along the Brent River, and that’s just for this weekend!

- Saturday, January 13, 10:00 – 14:00 –Volunteer and public open day at EWG@Costons Lane Nature Reserve @ Costons Lane Nature Reserve
Come and join EWG’s volunteer day, working on projects to improve the facilities and habitat of Costons Lane nature reserve. Regular tasks include path maintenance, brush clearing, gardening and watering. Please bring your wellies and thick gloves if you have them, although there are some available to share. While there are always things to do onsite you can just visit our oasis of calm in this little natural paradise. EWG have a bird hide, several ponds and wetlands, a small wood, a wildlife garden, and a sunny deck to sit back and relax with tea. You can spot Foxes, Woodpeckers, Slow Worms, Newts, Frogs, Spiders, Insects, Dragonflies, Butterflies, Red Kites, all manner of pondlife and twilight Bats. To learn more about the reserve click here. The gated entrance with an EWG sign is on Ruislip Road East across from the Lidl Car Park, between 61 Clifton Road and 31 Costons Lane. NB – All under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Meet outside the Pitzhanger Pantry outdoor cafe in Walpole Park to learn what is needed to have a winning image and why the 2023 winners were chosen.
- Sunday, January 14, 09:00 – 12:00 – Kingfisher Safari Brent River walk Pitshanger Park, Ealing to The Fox Inn, Hanwell @ Pitshanger Park entrance at the junction of Meadvale and Barnfield Road
Meet Sean and co for a leisurely riverside walking safari, taking in some super spots for Kingfisher watching. Meet at W5 1LR, Pitshanger park entrance at the junction of Meadvale and Barnfield Road at 9am. Wear sturdy walking boots, bring binoculars if you have them (there are some spare) and dress for the weather. Even if we don’t see a Kingfisher on this occasion, this walk will set you up for success to spot one another time. The aim is to reach The Fox in Hanwell for a warming beverage around midday. Feel free to tag along and dip out along the way if you need to. Not suitable for young kids under about ten, under 18s to be accompanied by an adult.
