Can I recycle Easter Egg Packaging

With your Easter eggs, make sure you know which parts of the packaging can be recycled or not.

London Recycles has put these guides together to help and also has details on your local recycling services https://londonrecycles.co.uk/

  • Cardboard box YES: Cardboard is recycled in Ealing. Just flatten it down before putting it into your blue recycling bin.
  • Plastic Tray YES: Most Easter Egg Trays are made from PET plastic which can go straight into your blue recycling bin.
  • FOIL Yes: Foil is recyclable in the blue recycling bin. Top Tip: collect as much foil as possible and scrunch into a ball before throwing into your recycling bin. The bigger the ball, the easier it is to recycle- tennis ball and bigger!

5 tips for a sustainable Easter

Acton Reduce and Recycle Hub has some sustainable tips for Easter:

🥚Dye Eggs Naturally:  Skip the chemical dyes and embrace the beauty of natural pigments! Use colorful vegetables like red cabbage, beetroot, or onion skins to create vibrant Easter eggs. It’s a fun and safe activity for the whole family. See this guide from Mommy Potamus Dye Easter Eggs

♻️ Repurpose and Reuse:  Get creative with Easter baskets!  Instead of buying a new plastic one, use a wicker basket, a tote bag, or a decorated shoebox. You can personalize it with natural materials like straw or fabric scraps.

🛍️ Go Local and Sustainable:  Support local farmers and shops. You can reduce your carbon footprint by choosing locally sourced, organic chocolate and Easter treats. Look for companies that use minimal packaging or offer package-free options.

🌱 Plant a Seed: Instead of giving the usual sugary treats, consider gifting seed packets or small potted plants or bulbs. This promotes growing your own and symbolizes new beginnings, perfectly in line with Easter.

🐰Egg Hunt with a Twist:  Ditch the plastic eggs!  Use reusable fabric eggs or even skip the eggs altogether and hide small plants, seed bombs, or homemade treats instead. It’s a fun way to minimize waste while keeping the Easter egg hunt exciting.
