Filmed with stunning cinematography over four years, Between the Rains is the coming-of-age story of Kolei. Kolei is a shepherd boy whose name translates to “living amongst the goats.” Unfolding over the course of a prolonged drought, the film shows you deeper into Kolei’s inner conflict. Kolei questions not only his own identity as a warrior, a path that was chosen for him, but also the erosion of the culture that has shaped every aspect of his life. For Kolei, becoming a warrior not only shapes masculinity and personal identity. It is also the very foundation on which this community and society root their lives. It is a sacred, guiding pillar.
With unprecedented and intimate access to the Turkana people, this moving coming-of-age story reveals the grave threats facing one of the world’s oldest communities.
A live Q&A follows the screening with the director, Andrew Harrison Brown. Stay after the event to engage with representatives of Act for Ealing, Ealing Friends of the Earth and Parents for Future London.
