Boost biodiversity in the Ealing and win prizes for your home-building efforts
New life for an old pallet and local mini-residents
A keen upcycling resident in W4 created a brand new home for Ealing’s smallest residents. He did this by reinventing an old pallet into a bug hotel. In support of Abundance London‘s mission to reconnect people with nature, a couple of these fabulous bug hotels have been installed in public areas around Chiswick. Even the tiniest balcony or front garden can incorporate a bug hotel which could then be entered into the Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition (deadline 14 July).
This boost to wildlife is exactly what the Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition wants to showcase and celebrate. Every corner matters to the competition organisers, ActForEaling, Cultivating Ealing and Ealing Council. It is all about celebrating life supporting spaces across the borough’s seven towns of: Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall.
New homes for mini-beasts
The Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition wants locals to experiment with inviting mini-beasts into their outdoor space. These mini-beasts are vital to the health of our soils, plants and ultimately us! With the sun now shining, get outside and find some old leaves, twigs and pine cones. With these bits and bobs, you can create much needed homes for solitary-bees, ladybirds, centipedes, woodlice and beetles. Check out the handy tips and ideas from the Woodland Trust and Hubbub.
Then all you have to do is take some photos and enter your bit of local biodiversity into the Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition . You could be in with a chance to win a cash prize for your home building efforts! (The deadline for entries is 14 July.)

Get planting, take some photos and enter one of the many categories in the Biodiverse Front Gardens and Balconies Competition. Be part of boosting biodiversity in the borough.
